Raj Kamal Sharma

I am a development professional with over two decades of experience and a Master of Public Health (International) from the University of Leeds, UK, working across the social and public sectors. My career spans national and international not‑for‑profit organizations, with a strong focus on public health system strengthening and government collaboration.

My core strengths include:

• Government engagement: Building and sustaining state‑level partnerships, negotiating and formalizing MoUs/LoAs, and leveraging government resources and budgets to integrate and scale programs.
• Strategic leadership: Providing strategic direction and overseeing program execution in line with senior leadership priorities and organisational goals.
• Team management and capacity building: Recruiting through networks, coaching teams, and establishing supportive supervision systems to ensure high‑quality implementation.
• Program scale‑up and stakeholder management: Institutionalising programs within NHM and PIPs, representing initiatives in state and partner forums, and maintaining regular stakeholder communication.
• Donor and CSR engagement: Managing donor relationships and CSR mobilisation through timely program and financial reporting, and developing strong proposals and RFP responses.
• Documentation, research and innovation: Leading documentation, synthesising evidence into brief products, working with M&E to publish findings, and designing innovations for donors, government and partners.

Over the past fifteen years, I have led large program teams, managed government and donor partnerships, and delivered high‑impact interventions across Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. I have been recognised for innovative, scalable interventions and contributions to “Good and Replicable Practices” acknowledged by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.

I have managed donors such as The Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation, DFID, The David and Lucile Packard Foundation, IPPF‑SAAF, Janki Foundation and Grand Challenges Canada, implementing programs with NHM and other departments. My experience spans team and finance management, networking, initiating CSR funding, conducting research, presenting at national and international forums, and donor interfacing. Previously, I have worked with TeamLease Foundation (supported by AIF), Piramal Foundation, Ipas Development Foundation and Pathfinder International.

I am a recipient of the Ford Foundation International Fellowship and hold an MPH (International) from the University of Leeds, UK. My long experience in the social sector has deepened my commitment to serving disadvantaged and underserved communities.

• Designed the program implementation for increasing the “Health Seeking Behaviour in Adolescents and Young Women on Sexual & Reproductive Health & Rights”.
• Institutionalised the community-based supply chain management and strengthened the “Family Planning Logistic Management System” (FP-LMIS). The various innovations were done while implementing these program implementations which were recognized five times in National Health Summit by Government of India during their Good and Replicable Practices.
